Mizzou Football Rookie Spotlight: Ray Wingo
Meet Ray Wingo, an incoming freshman cornerback who is wearing the number 14 proudly in black and gold. A graduate of St. Louis University High School, Wingo is considered the No. 7 recruit in the state of Missouri. He boasts other athletic abilities besides football, as well. Wingo was on the track and field team in high school and holds a 100-meter dash championship to his name.
When deciding where to play football, Wingo chose Mizzou over many notable offers including Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee and Nebraska.
“I love the family-based atmosphere here,” he said. “I love the coaches and it is close to home.”
When asked what were the biggest differences between high school level football and collegiate level, Wingo had solid points.
“It is much faster. People are bigger and stronger, and people who are the same speed as you, so you have to work to get a hit.”
Watch Mizzou play its home opener against South Dakota State at The ZOU on August 30. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. CT.
