Mizzou Football Offensive Play of the Week

,

This Offensive Play of the Week gave Mizzou a three-touchdown lead in the first half of its dominating 31-3 win over Tennessee on Saturday night.

After Tennessee got on the board with a 51-yard field goal with 4:13 remaining in the second quarter, Mizzou answered with a scoring drive of its own. Big runs by Henry Josey and Marcus Murphy and two short completions by Maty Mauk put Mizzou across midfield and set up the biggest offensive play of the game.

On second and eight from the Tennessee 40, Mauk dropped back and delivered a perfect ball right into the hands of Marcus Lucas for six. Lucas blew by his defender on a seam route and Mauk hit the receiver in stride before the safety could rotate over.

The touchdown catch was Lucas’s second of the season, and he finished the night with four receptions for 75 yards. The 40-yard pitch and catch was Mauk’s third touchdown pass of the half. When it was all said and done, the quarterback accounted for 277 yards of total offense: 163 through the air and 114 on the ground.
