Mizzou Football Offensive Play of the Week

Missouri football moved to a 2-0 record with a 38-23 win over Head Coach Gary Pinkel’s former school, the Toledo Rockets, on Saturday.

The Tigers were paced by a relentless aerial attack brought by senior quarterback James Franklin and the receiving core.

This video highlights our offensive play of the week, a 9-yard touchdown toss from Franklin to sophomore standout Dorial Green-Backham (Springfield, Mo.).

Leading just 10-9 with just over a minute left in the first half, Franklin took a quick, three-step drop on first and goal and lobbed a pass toward the left side.

It was second and goal for the Tigers from the Rockets’ nine-yard line, and Missouri was looking for a quick score to finish off the half.

Green-Beckham ran a fade route and opened himself up with his three-inch height advantage on Toledo’s defensive back. When his body turned to face the ball in mid-air, the ball fell right into his arms, perfectly placed.

It was a highlight in a game full of notable plays.

Franklin threw for 212 yards on the day and that touchdown. He also led the Tigers with 77 yards on the ground on 17 carries.

Tailback Henry Josey continued his comeback season in grand style, scoring two touchdowns on the ground to give him three scores on the still young season.  Marcus Murphy also scored a rushing touchdown: an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Green-Beckham led the Tigers in receptions for the second straight week. He and senior captain L’Damian Washington both reeled in five catches.

One of the top national recruits from the 2012 signing class, Green-Beckham has improved and evolved into a dynamic weapon on the outside. His great size, speed and quickness are highlighted in this play and in many others already over this young season. He is averaging a spectacular 14.9 yards per catch in 2013, proof he has become one of Franklin’s primary targets. Dating back to last season, Green-Beckham has now recorded five touchdowns in his last seven games.
