Mizzou Defensive Play of the Week
The Mizzou Defensive Play of the Week might have to change its name this week. That’s because senior cornerback E.J. Gaines made not one, but two acrobatic interceptions in Mizzou’s 58-14 victory over the Murray State Racers.
The Tigers actually started off relatively slow, but Gaines stopped a drive in the second quarter with a diving catch, snagging the ball just inches off the turf.
Gaines wasn’t done, as he picked Murray State quarterback Maikhail Miller a second time in the third quarter on a tipped pass. Miller finished with three interceptions in the game.
Gaines, a team captain, looks to be one of the standouts this year on defense. He was First Team All-Big 12 in 2011, and was named the team’s best cornerback in 2012.
