Gary Pinkel launches GP M.A.D.E. Foundation
Coach Gary Pinkel and his wife Missy launch the GP M.A.D.E. Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed toward making a difference in the lives of children every day on April 24, 2019. The three pillars of the foundation are support and research for children and youth facing lymphoma and leukemia cancers, assisting children and youth with physical challenges and aiding children and youth experiencing economic and social challenges.
These three pillars hit home for Pinkel, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2015 and has had family members impacted by physical disabilities. During his time as a coach, Pinkel placed a huge emphasis on his players’ education and their ability to earn a degree. Now, this desire to help others has created an entire foundation.
The ultimate goal in the foundation’s first year? To raise $365,000. In an article from the Kansas City Star, Missy explained that this number stems from the 365 days a year that they aspire to make a difference in.
“And if we don’t get (to $365,000),” Coach Pinkel said, “it’s like going 7-5 your first year. Just be 10-2 the next year.”
