Aaron O’Neal was a redshirt freshman linebacker heading into the 2005 season, with much promise to his future. Aaron’s dream died tragically on the afternoon of July 12, 2005, when he passed away following a voluntary workout with his teammates. Since then, a Mizzou linebacker has been chosen to wear the number 25 on their jersey every four years. After Zaviar Gooden graduated last year, the number was passed on to redshirt freshman Donavin Newsom.

Watch as Newsom and Defensive Coordinator Dave Steckel talk about playing for Aaron’s memory, and the honor associated with wearing the number 25.

2014 Mizzou Football Schedule Announced
Arkansas Will Visit Faurot on Saturday of Thanksgiving Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri football team has its first look at the 2014 schedule, and the Tigers will play seven home games next year, including a visit by Arkansas to Columbia on Saturday of Thanksgiving week.  It will mark the first visit to Columbia by Arkansas since the 1906 season.

The Southeastern Conference released the 2014 league schedules today, and when combined with MU’s four non-conference contests, the Tigers will play home games against South Dakota State (Aug. 30, 2014), Central Florida (Sept. 13) and Indiana (Sept. 20) to begin the home season.  A road date at Toledo on Sept. 6th is the only game away from Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field early on.

Mizzou will then go through the SEC gauntlet in October with a game at South Carolina (Sept. 27), followed with a bye week and then a home game against Georgia (Oct. 11).  After a road game at Florida (Oct. 18), the Tigers return home for consecutive home games against Vanderbilt (Oct. 25) and Kentucky (Nov. 1).  After a second bye week, the Tigers will hit the road on consecutive weeks, playing at Texas A&M for the fourth time in five seasons (Nov. 15) and at Tennessee (Nov. 22), prior to the holiday-weekend game against the Razorbacks.

Here’s a look at the full schedule.  Stay tuned to www.MUTigers.com for further details in the future.

We sat down with Freshmen Defensive Linebacker Nate Crawford from Pensacola, Florida. Crawford told us that he is excited for the new season and is more than prepared for this week’s game. He is looking forward to getting some playing time and the grind of football, as it is the reason he has chosen to move out of state and begin a new chapter in his life.

Hailing from the Mid-Missouri, Jefferson City area, Freshman Linebacker Joe Burkett begins his college football career at none other than Mizzou. Burkett discusses the coaching staff, his “big brother” and the overall experience he’s had at camp thus far.

Five Tigers Selected to Preseason All-SEC Teams by the League’s Coaches

Gaines, E.J.          Murphy, Marcus          Baggett, Andrew           Britt, Justin         Green-Beckham, Dorial

The SEC league office announced that five members of the Mizzou Football team were selected to the Preseason All-SEC teams on Thursday. E.J. Gaines, Marcus Murphy, Andrew Baggett, Justin Britt and Dorial Green-Beckham were all named to one of the teams.

Gaines, a senior cornerback from Independence, Mo., was named to the second team. Gaines is also on the Bednarik Award watchlist for his senior season. He is joined on the second team by Murphy, a junior running back and return specialist from DeSoto, Texas. Murphy was also named to Sports Illustrated’s Preseason All-American List.

Baggett, Britt, and Green-Beckham all received third team honors. Baggett, a sophomore placekicker from Lee’s Summit, Mo., was an SEC All-Freshman standout last season. Britt, a senior offensive lineman from Lebanon, Mo., anchors a finally-healthy offensive line that looks to clear paths for a strong spread option attack. Green-Beckham is the highly-touted sophomore receiver from Springfield, Mo., who led the team in receiving touchdowns last season with five.

For the complete listing of the teams, check the SEC’s website.

The Mizzou Football family takes great pride in helping our fellow Missourians. It’s a humbling experience to see effort on the field translate to positive action off of it.

The next focus of the Rookie Spotlight isn’t actually a freshman at all. Safety Duron Singleton, a New Orleans native who transferred from Fresno City Community College, started his career at Mizzou a bit late but has already been getting in to the swing of things. Listen as Duron talks about the speed and passion Coach Grinch instills in the safeties, and what brought Duron to Mizzou. Go Tigers!

Freshman linebacker Eric Beisel from St. Louis is the next subject of the Rookie Spotlight. Eric, was was Mic’d Up for the second scrimmage of Fall Camp, shares his thoughts on his decision to attend Mizzou, his personal goals for his next few years and the motivation he has to go out and play football. Go Tigers!

Freshman defensive tackle A.J. Logan didn’t have to travel far to realize his dream of playing college football. A.J., the Columbia native, knew he was born to be a Tiger and signed immediately upon receiving his scholarship offer. Hear about A.J.’s recruiting experiences with Coach Hill, and how he’s dealing with the learning curve coming from high school in this edition of Rookie Spotlight.

It’s Fall Camp, and practice just ended. Time to sit back, relax and… work out? That’s the philosophy of the Mizzou Football Strength and Conditioning team, who run post-practice workouts designed to aid recover and regeneration after a hard day of work.
